چکیده

Recent interest in electricity production using microbial fuel cells makes it important to better understand O2 reduction in neutral solutions with non-precious metal catalysts. Higher O2 reduction activity was obtained using iron phthalocyanine supported on Ketjen black carbon (FePc-KJB) than with a platinum catalyst in neutral pH. At low overpotentials, a Tafel slope close to -0.06 V/dec in both acid and neutral pH suggested that the mechanism of O2 reduction on FePc is not changed with the change of pH, and the reaction is mainly controlled by Fe/Fe redox couple. This behaviour gives us new insight into catalysis using FePc, and further supports the use of FePc as a promising catalyst for the oxygen reduction applications in neutral media.

Design of Iron(II) Phthalocyanine‐Derived Oxygen Reduction Electrocatalysts for High‐Power‐Density Microbial Fuel Cells

Iron(II) phthalocyanine (FePc) deposited onto two different carbonaceous supports was synthesized through an unconventional pyrolysis-free method. The obtained materials were studied in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in neutral media through incorporation in an air-breathing cathode structure and tested in an operating microbial fuel cell (MFC) configuration. Rotating ring disk electrode (...

Active site formation mechanism of carbon-based oxygen reduction catalysts derived from a hyperbranched iron phthalocyanine polymer

Carbon-based cathode catalysts derived from a hyperbranched iron phthalocyanine polymer (HB-FePc) were characterized, and their active-site formation mechanism was studied by synchrotron-based spectroscopy. The properties of the HB-FePc catalyst are compared with those of a catalyst with high oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity synthesized from a mixture of iron phthalocyanine and phenolic...

Degradation of Phthalocyanine by a Core-Shell TiO2 Photocatalyst: Effect of Iron Dopping on Band Gap

In this research, initially, the sol-gel method was employed to produce γ-alumina and TiO2 catalysts with core-shell structure. Iron (III) was used as a dopant. The newlyproduced core-shells were Fe/TiO2// Fe/ γ-Al2O3 (FTFA). Sulfonated cobalt phthalocyanine was used as a dye pollutant in Merox process. By doping Fe in TiO2 catalyst, the ef...

Oxygen reduction reaction on Pt/C at the presence of super paramagnetic of Fe3O4 nanoparticles for PEMFCs

In this paper the role of super paramagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPI) on Platinum nanoclusters on activated carbon (Pt/C) for electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction was considered. Four composites of Pt/C and super paramagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles were prepared with the same total composites weight and different loading of Pt/C (1.2, 0.6, 0.4 and 0.3 mg ). The composite attached ...

Study on Electrochemical Oxidation of m-Nitrophenol on Various Electrodes Using Cyclic Voltammetry

The electrochemical oxidation behavior of m-nitrophenol (m-NP) was studied comparatively on glassy carbon electrode, Pt electrode, PbO2 electrode, SnO2 electrode, and graphite electrode using cyclic voltammetry. The cyclic voltammetry measurements were performed in acidic (1 M H2SO4, pH 0.4), neutral (1 M Na2SO4, pH 6.8), and...
